Over the last few years, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has been the runaway leader in web browser usage. As recently as 2 years ago, 95% of internet users were using some form of Internet Explorer to browse the web. Now, Mozilla’s Firefox browser is quickly gaining ground on Microsoft’s web browsing empire. Currently, about 20% of internet users are using Firefox to browse the web. 70% of users still use Internet Explorer. The remaining 10% of users are divided among browsers like Netscape Navigator, Safari and Opera.

What does this mean to you? Different browsers display websites in different ways. What looks good to you on internet explorer may not look as good to a user with Firefox. With 1 out of every 5 users viewing sites with Firefox now, it’s past time to think about making sure your website works well for them. The best thing to do is to find a web design company that develops sites using universal web standards that will look good in all browsers. That way, you’re covered no matter which browser takes control of the market.
