You may not know who Ben Shneiderman is, but he has a lot to say about how people interect with the internet. In fact, a Special Issue of International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction was put out in honor of Ben Shneiderman’s 60th birthday.

He said this, and I like it:

“The old computing was about mastering technology; the new computing is about supporting human relationships.”

In other words, your web site is not just about how pretty you think it is, it’s about how well people interact with it. Can they find what they are looking for? Is it easy to buy something on it or to navigate the menu?
